Common Questions

Schema markup, explained.

What is schema markup?

A short block of code, called structured data, that tells search engines exactly what a page is about - your business, a product, an article - in a format they read reliably. Visitors never see it, but Google can use it to show richer results, like your logo, star ratings, prices or opening hours.

Where do I put the code?

Paste it into the <head> of the page it describes - or anywhere in the page’s HTML. Organization goes on your homepage only; Article, Product, FAQ and Breadcrumb go on the page each one describes. On WordPress, a header-code plugin or your SEO plugin can add it for you.

Will it guarantee rich results in Google?

No. Correct markup makes a page eligible, but Google decides when to show rich results based on the search and the page’s quality. The markup must also match what visitors can see on the page - marking up reviews or prices that aren’t shown can get it ignored.

Which type should I use?

Organization on your homepage, so Google knows your name, logo and profiles. Local Business if customers visit you or you serve a local area. Article for blog posts, Product for anything you sell, and Breadcrumb to show where a page sits on your site.

Is FAQ markup still worth adding?

Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites. The markup still helps other search engines and AI assistants understand your questions and answers, so it does no harm - just don’t expect the dropdowns in Google.

How do I test it?

Paste the page address or the code into Google’s Rich Results Test to see which rich results it qualifies for. Once the page is live, our Page SEO Checker shows which structured data types it found.

Is my data stored?

No. The code is built in your browser - nothing you enter is sent to us or saved.
